West Shore RCMP file: 2016-15321
On October 18th, the West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit has arrested 32 year-old Layton STEARNS of Langford, for Driving while Prohibited and for Breach of Recognizance. STEARNS is well known to police and was convicted to 6 months in jail, a fine and 2 year driving prohibition. Western Communities courthouse file #19547 refers.
West Shore RCMP file: 2016-15413
On October 19th, while conducting a separate investigation, the West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit located 25 year old Dezmond WHITE on Gorge Rd E, in Esquimalt. WHITE was subject of a warrant of arrest for Driving while Prohibited out of Central Saanich. The C.R.U. took WHITE into custody after a brief foot chase.

On October 20th, the West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit were conducting a drug investigation and subsequently arrested 30 year old James HOUSTON and 24 year old Tyler WARDROPE, both of no fixed address. The search incidental to arrest yielded multiple baggies of suspected marijuana, heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine and a quantity of suspected MDMA and prescription medication. A large sum of money was also seized. Both men were charged on multiple criminal charges. They are well known to police and have been remanded in custody.
The Crime Reduction Unit proactively targets property crime offenders, prolific offenders, as well as conducts warrant apprehensions on people with outstanding arrest warrants, states Cst. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for West Shore RCMP.
Investigators liaise with outside agencies including Saanich and Victoria Police, Prolific Offender Management Team and assist General Duty members with investigations related to property crime, frauds, or where prolific or repeat offenders are involved. The Crime Reduction Unit also assists agencies and police departments from other jurisdictions where investigation is required in the West Shore area.
